Living in cities or towns can often make you feel very disconnected from nature. But no matter where you live, there are always adjustments you can make to live a more natural and less chemical lifestyle.
Try zero waste shops and products
The zero-waste movement is growing, with people getting back to basics and rid of unnecessary plastic and chemicals. Find your local zero waste shop where you can buy products in bulk with your own containers. Even if you don’t have one, there are plenty of other shops and online companies that create more natural products like deodorant, bar shampoo and conditioner, essential oils, soaps, and cosmetics that are free of harmful and synthetic components.
Go vegetarian or vegan
A vegetarian or vegan diet, when done well, can be one of the healthiest for your body and mind. Meat is not the only place you can get protein, and avoiding meat and dairy is avoiding a lot of synthetic hormones and ingredients. Get back to basics and embrace a more plant-based lifestyle by focusing on whole foods and discovering new recipes.
Grow your own food
We have never been so far removed from our food where produce is grown in large greenhouses and flown in from all over the world. Learn where your food comes from by buying from your local farmer, or even better, growing your own! You can easily re-grow produce like leeks and onions from stems left in a dish of water. If you have space, plant a small vegetable patch and nurture a plethora of foods that have a much lower carbon footprint and zero chemicals.
Use what you have
Another element of the zero waste movement is not, in fact, buying a tonne of zero waste products, but instead using what you have. Be happy with the items you have in your household and try to reduce the amount of new stuff you buy.
